A rose is either a thorny, flowering shrub or the flower of that shrub. The leaves are pinnately compound, having pairs of leaflets along an axis with a single leaflet at the end. Many cultivated varieties have double flowers. Roses are used as ornamental plants in gardens and for cut flowers and rose oil.
