:... People believ[ed] that rulers really were appointed by God to rule (and in some cases, actually believed the ruler ''was'' God). During the 1800s, people started becoming unhappy with leaders becoming more corrupt. Most everyone joined into that notion, even those who lived in countries that did not have very corrupt rulers. Reformers in China rejected Confucianism and sought to give more rights to the poor and workers.
