An antipope is somebody who makes a claim to the papacy and develops a significant following, but is not actually accepted by the Roman Catholic Church. A small minority of catholics refer to Barack Obama as an antipope.
The word "antipope" is often associated with the Western Schism, in which two (and later, three) popes reigned simultaneously.
