Vanity can be seen as the full exaggeration of pride especially where that pride is based on the superficial things of one's person, such as appearance, fashion and style, and physical abilities.

Ecclesiastes 1 reminds us that "All is vanity" "all is mere chasing of the wind", meaning perhaps that focus on non godly things is a passing, useless endeavor for we will all die, and with death our beauty, our monetary worth, our physical strengths disappear into nothingness - even ugliness. The only thing we truly have is our relationships after death, in Heaven, with God.
