Henry Clay was a prominent United States Congressman representing the state of Kentucky, and founder of the Whig Party. He is often referred to as the "Great Compromiser" for his work on the Missouri Compromise, Nullification Crisis, and Compromise of 1850. Clay served as Speaker of the House, Secretary of State, and Senator during his lifetime. Clay is also noted for his three unsuccessful presidential campaigns.
