In 2010 NASA and the Goddard Institute for Space Studies conducted an analysis that showed that 2009 was the second warmest year on record, and the decade of January 2000 to December 2009 was the warmest decade  on record. The analysis used measurements from over 1,000 weather stations, satellite measurements of sea surface temperatures, and antarctic research stations.
