The New York Yankees are a Major League Baseball team located in the Bronx borough of New York City, New York. They play in the American League, East Division.
The Yankees are considered to be one of the most successful teams in baseball history because they have won 26 championships[1].
The Yankees are also one of the wealthiest teams in all baseball[2], a fact that critics have criticized and fans have lauded. Their payroll has been the league's highest for many years. As of 2008, they have handed out four of the five highest contracts in MLB history.
