The Desert Eagle is a high-caliber, large frame semiautomatic handgun. It utilizes a gas-operated system. It was designed by Magnum Research and Israeli Weapon Industries (IWI). It is primarily manufactured in Israel by IWI.
The Desert Eagle in it's original form was called the Mark I. It is no longer available to purchase. The second version was called the Mark VII. It is still in production. The current version is called the Mark XIX.
The Desert Eagle is often used by hunters for hunting large game due to the high caliber and good accuracy associated with the weapon, or as a defensive sidearm for hunters in areas with dangerous creatures like Bears that a normal hunting weapon would not be powerful enough to kill. It is sometimes used by target shooters for it's reputation of great accuracy due to it's high quality design, and because an extended barrel version is available to aid performance. The barrel has a polygonal rifling rather than normal grooved rifling for extra accuracy and durability.
The Desert Eagle has also been featured in many Video Games, Films, and Television Shows. One feature the Desert Eagle is famous for that may have helped make it more popular is that it can be purchased with 24 Karat gold plating. One very popular game the gold-plated Desert Eagle was featured in is Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The Desert Eagle was also featured in the sequel, Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2, although the Desert Eagle in this game could not be Gold-Plated. Other popular Video Games to feature the Desert Eagle include Duke Nukem, Max Payne, and Half-Life.[1]
