Elaine Chao (An immigrant from Taiwan who arrived in America at age 8) was the Secretary of Labor in the cabinet of the Bush administration. She is the first Asian-American woman to be appointed to a U.S. Cabinet position. From 1996 to her appointment in 2001, she was a Distinguished Fellow at the Heritage Foundation, and from 1992 to 1996, she was president of the United Way of America. She is currently married to Mitch McConnell.
