A stop press is a leaflet issued with a publication to correct an error or omission.
The term comes from newspaper printing, where sudden breaking news would require the presses to be stopped. Including the update on a separate sheet provides an alternative to actually stopping the presses and abandoning the current print run, which may be costly in time and money.
