Red state

A red state is a state that has voted for the republican candidate in a presidential election. The term comes from a convention used by news networks in which states are colored red when a majority votes for a Republican presidential candidate.

Voters in red states are generally conservative. Red states are noted for a commitment to conservative Christian morality, pro-life, anti-homosexuality, an emphasis on the importance of the traditional nuclear family, higher spending on the military, a decrease in government regulation of business, and a reduction of taxes. Red states are generally in the southern and midwestern United States.
