Macadam road

Macadam road refers to a type of road construction that was popularized by John Loudon McAdam. A macadam road is built with three different layers of stone, each compacted by a roller. Also, macadam roads were crowned (meaning they were higher in the center than on the sides) and because of that they had ditches on the side of the road for water drainage.
