The Standard Model of Fundamental Particles and Interactions
The Standard Model of particle physics is a quantum field theory that explains electromagnetism, strong and weak nuclear interactions in a unified framework. It is a non-abelian gauge theory with the gauge group SU(3)ÃSU(2)ÃU(1).
It was formulated in the 1970s and has withstood all experimental tests. It has only been modified by adding mass to the electron neutrino. Physicists are currently looking for its most audacious prediction, the Higgs boson.
