Fulgencio Batista

Fulgencio Batista was the dictator of Cuba before Fidel Castro. His actions while ruler sparked the revolution, for he maintained a starving state and mocked the people with events such as "elections", where he ran unopposed. He was overthrown when the U.S. started to back Fidel Castro[Citation Needed]. He fled the country and Castro took over as dictator of Cuba.
