The Master System is an 8-bit video game console produced by Sega. This was the first video game console made by Sega. It had games ranging from board game ports like Monopoly and Battleship, RPG's and ports of the popular Sega Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog games. The console sold commercially well in Europe and Brazil and other South American countries where Nintendo's NES was not sold. The console did not sell well in Japan and the United States where the NES/Famicom was released a while earlier and was very popular. The console was replaced by the 16-bit Sega Genesis/Mega Drive.
