Linear function

A linear function is a degree 1 polynomial; every degree 1 polynomial is a linear function. Linear functions can be written in the form <math>f(x) = mx + b</math>, where x is a variable and m and b are real numbers. When plotted on the Cartesian coordinate plane, a linear function forms a straight line, hence its name.
