The magic e or silent e is a concept in phonics, which "magically" causes vowels to say their names. Examples include:

  • Hope
  • Cube
  • Game
  • Sake
  • Huge (the "e" in "huge" serves two purposes: it makes the u a long syllable and makes the "g" soft, as in jump.)
