Collectivism

Collectivism is the belief that consensus is a better mode of decision-making than individualism. It is generally preferred by Liberals. Conservatives generally prefer individualism.
Author Ayn Rand was against collectivism in all forms. She grew up in Soviet Russia, and experienced first-hand the flaws of total collectivism. After emigrating to America, she wrote many books. Most well known is Atlas Shrugged, though The Fountainhead covers much of the same conceptual territory, and is considered an easier read.
