Osamu Tezuka

Osamu Tezuka (November 3, 1928 - February 9, 1989) was a legendary Japanese mangaka, also known as "The God of Manga" (which is ironic since he was an atheist). He is widely credited for introducing to manga many of the stylistic properties of manga, including the now-commonplace large round eyes.
His most well-known works include Astro Boy, Black Jack, Kimba the White Lion, Metropolis, and Princess Knight.
