A tactic is a mode, method, or technique for accomplishing an end. A military tactic is a technique, like encirclement of an enemy, in contrast to "strategy" which is an overall plan. In politics it is a technique used in a campaign, like calling the other candidate a racist or liar. Tactics are the collective set of techniques used in competition or battles.
