American Bible Society

The American Bible Society was founded in 1816 and was long headquartered at the Bible House (built in 1893 but demolished 1956) in New York City,[1] and the American Bible Society's headquarters moved to Philadelphia in August 2015.

The Society holds 45,000 volumes including 3,000 rare manuscripts.[2]

Before the American Civil War the American Bible Society was criticized for rejecting a donation to distribute Bibles directly to American slaves.
