Haloperidol

Haloperidol (Marketed in the US as Haldol) is a typical antipsychotic drug. It is used in the treatment of acute psychosis in schizophrenia and severe manic episodes in Bipolar disorder. Haloperidol is on the World Health Organization's Essential Drugs List.

Side effects

• Extrapyramidal (movement) symptoms such as tremors and dystonia.
• May cause the very rare but potentially fatal neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
• Tardive dyskinesia, a movement disorder which may prove incurable.
