Posse Foundation
The Posse Foundation is a tax-exempt non-profit group under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) that provides scholarship to students in public high schools in ten urban areas to attend elite universities.
The Posse Foundation has chapters in ten cities: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York, Washington, D.C. and San Francisco. Each year, each chapter recruits and selects a group of 10 students from that area to attend a particular university as a group. The Posse Foundation then arranges scholarship support and extra academic support. The group (or "posse") attending each school is encouraged to form friendships in the summer before leaving for college and to continue to meet on campus. By forming a support group with peer students, the students have a greater chance at academic success.
The Posse Foundation was founded in 1989 by Deborah Bial.
