The Little Red Hen

The Little Red Hen is a folk tale, probably Russian, that has served historically as a parable about giving value for value received. For more than a century children would take that lesson to heart. But in modern times, children learn a far different lesson from a government that hands things out to people. Today the Little Red Hen story depicts a work ethic that seems to be disappearing from the Western world.
