Saint Erasmus (also known as Saint Elmo) was the bishop of Formiae in Italy in the 3rd century AD. He was tortured and martyred for Christ around 303 AD by the Roman Emperor Diocletian. He is the patron saint of sailors. Saint Elmo's Fire was named after him.[1]
