Random number

A random number is one that is drawn from a set of possible values, each of which is equally probable.[1]
Some traditional means of generating random numbers are throwing dice or casting lots. Democracy in Athens operated in part on casting lots from a pool of candidates in a process called sortition.
Jurors are chosen from the Jury Pool at random for Voir Dire.[2] This is likely done via a computer software pseudo random number generator that is seeded with a computer clock. Students seeking entry into charter schools are chosen via a lottery.
Hardware random number generators are available in various packages, including small USB elements.
