The Book of Matthew is the first book of the four gospels in the New Testament. This gospel is believed to have been circulated to others by 70 A.D, and, as with the four other gospels, chronicles the life and works of Jesus. Its goal seems to have been to convince Jewish readers that Jesus is indeed the Messiah, through demonstrating Jesus's works and how his ministry fulfills Old Testament scripture.[1]
The earliest manuscripts of Matthew discovered so far are written in Greek, suggesting that Matthew's native tongue was Greek.[1]
