Mohammed Mossadegh

Mohammed Mossadegh was the democratically elected president of Iraq from 1951-1953. He was overthrown by the CIA in a covert coup after nationalizing the Anglo-Iranian oil company against British wishes. The US then brought to power Mohammed Reza Pahlavi, more commonly known as the Shah of Iran. The Shah was more willing to comply with US interests but committed many human rights violations against his people.
