Flamingo

A Flamingo is a pink bird that lives in marshlands. It has the ability to fly, and its diet consists mainly of shrimp.
In colonial times, flamingoes were driven nearly to extinction by overpopulation. This was due to the high European demand for their tailfeathers, which were almost as prized as peacock feathers, yet much rarer because flamingoes are uniquely New World birds (whereas peacocks were known even to the ancient Romans). However, fashions will change, and today flamingo feathers are not particularly prized.
In the 1950s and 1960s, there was a brief fad of using stuffed flamingoes as lawn ornaments. Today, flamingoes are a protected species.
