Elfward
Elfward, (c. 903 - 2 August 924) son (possibly illegitimate) of Edward the Elder is sometimes said to have reigned for a short time after his father's death. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicles says only:
| Elfward | |

| |
| In office July 17, 924 â August 2, 924 | |
| Preceded by | Edward the Elder |
|---|---|
| Succeeded by | Athelstan |
| Born | c. 903 Wessex |
| Died | August 2, 924 Oxford |
- âKing Edward passed away, in Mercia, at Farndon, and his son Ãlfweard very soon after â sixteen days â at Oxford, their bodies lie at Winchester, Ãthelstan was chosen king...â
