Hall & Oates is one of the most successful rock music duo of all time. Originally from Philadelphia, Daryl Hall and John Oates have had six number-one songs so far in their career. With more than 40 million records sold, they are the third-best selling duo ever.[1] The peak of their popularity was 1974, when they had their first hit, through the 1980s. They also generally wrote their own music, in contrast with other popular artists.
Their lyrics tend to resonate with the working class, and they have made public statements that they welcome fans across the political spectrum. For example, in blocking use of their name by a liberal PAC, they said the following:[2]
