Kyrie eleison
Kyrie eleison is the first part â an acclamation â in the Latin Mass Ordinary, sung immediately after the entroit. It consists of nine statements: âKyrie eleisonâ three times; âChriste eleisonâ three times; âKyrie eleisonâ again three times. (âLord, have mercyâ¦Christ, have mercyâ¦Lord, have mercy.â) The Greek text, âKyrie eleisonâ was established in both the Eastern and Western churches from the earliest times. Pope, St. Gregory the Great is thought to have added the âChriste eleisonâ, thus creating the present form.
