Phonetic spelling takes advantage of the insights of phonics to correctly spell most words.
A helpful poem is this:
"i" before "e", except after "c", or when sounded as "ay", as in "neighbor" and "weigh". And "weird" is just "weird".

- leisure
- height
- caffeine
- foreign
- heifer
- forfeiture
- the "cien" endings: ancient, efficient, sufficient, and conscience
