Pyrotechnics is a field of science involving the use of fire in conjunction with chemical reactions to produce a desired effect.

Pyrotechnics includes, but is not limited to:

• Fireworks
• Rocketry
• The use of smoke for special effects
• Flares such as fusees, road flares, and signal flares
• Matches are a form of pyrotechnics
• Automobile air bags use a pyrotechnic device in their deployment
