Benazir Bhutto became the first woman to be the head of the state of a Muslim country when she was elected Prime Minister of Pakistan in 1988. She was the daughter of a former President who was killed. She lost the election of 1990 but won the election of 1993. Persecution of Christians grew under her Presidency.
