The present Archbishop, the Most Reverend and Right Honourable [[Rowan Williams]] (2002- ), is a former academic theologian who had previously served as Archbishop of Wales.  

His predecessor was the Right Reverend and Right Honourable [[Rowan Williams]] (2002-2012), an academic theologian who had previously served as Archbishop of Wales.  

Archbishop Williams was preceded by Archbishop [[George Carey]] (1991-2002). Carey rose from working-class origins through the church's ranks, and was seen as being part of the Church of England's [[Evangelism|evangelical]] wing.
