The United states uncovered that the Soviet Union was installing offensive missiles and air bases in Cuba. Presient John Kennedy demanded that the Soviets remove the missiles. To ensure this happened he sent a blockade to the island. Eventually, Khushchev the Soviet dictator backed down to avoid a war with the United States.
