The ''Federalist Papers'' were a series of newspaper articles written anonymously and published in New York in order to urge that large State to ratify the U.S. Constitution.  Today we know that most of the articles were written by Alexander Hamilton or James Madison, and a few less important ones were written by future Supreme Court Justice John Jay.
