Liberals are practitioners of Liberalism as a political philosophy or worldview founded on ideas of liberty and equality.[1][2][3] Whereas classical liberalism emphasises the role of liberty, social liberalism stresses the importance of equality.. Classical liberals included John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton and other Founding Fathers of this nation. Where Aristotle was considered the first to promote the concept of liberalism in explaining democracy, Thomas Hobbs and John Locke were considered key contributors to the foundational concepts adopted and argued by colonial separatists. Liberalism was quintessential to democracy and antithetical to conservatism v.v. an authoritarian rule of the crown and lord.
