The reported suicide of Ibáñez emboldened hundreds of citizens to take to the streets in the early hours of October 10, 2003 clashing with police, destroying the police station and setting fire to two trucks, a car and an ambulance. While returning from visiting his girlfriend, 19 year-old Luis Marcelo Cuellar, stopped to observe the clashes that were taking place near the 39th Police Station and was shot in the stomach. He was rushed to the Ledesma Clinic but was pronounced dead on arrival. His aunt, Elida, claimed that Cuellar did not participate in the street protests.
