====Black Lives Matter movement====
The Black Lives Matter movement began in 2013, when many in the African-American community believed a double standard of justice had been applied when Zimmerman was acquitted of the murder of Treyvon Martin. <ref> https://blacklivesmatter.com/about/ </ref>
Enraged by what they saw as decades of police brutality, and double-standards for prosecution and incarceration, the suffocation death of George Floyd at the hands of a police officer using a prolonged choke hold was the last straw. Some called to [[Defund the Police]].<ref>https://blacklivesmatter.com/what-defunding-the-police-really-means/ </ref> Members of the Black Lives Matter movement took to the streets, most of which intended to protest peacefully. However, like the 2021 Capitol riots, there were some [[Antifa|criminals]] who infiltrated the protests, damaged property, and committed arson, and looting, to discredit the movement.
