Reconstruction is the act of rebuilding something after it has been damaged or destroyed.
Reconstruction was the period after the [[Civil War]] in which the South was militarily inhabited by Northern troops. This was to ensure that the [[Emancipation Proclamation]] was carried out. Though it was not as effective as hoped, society was rebuilt.
