'''Kopperl''' (pronounced KOP-er-ul) is an unincorporated community in central [[Texas]], located on the northwest corner of Lake Whitney between [[Dallas]]-[[Fort Worth]] and [[Waco]]. It was founded in 1881 and named for a Galveston railroad tycoon. It's population is around 225.
It was the site of what is now known to be a '''heat burst''' (the remnants of a dying thunderstorm resulting in a rapid increase in temperature and strong, localized winds). On June 15, 1960, a thunderstorm collapsed over the community shortly after midnight. The temperatures suddenly rose from 75 °F to a reported 140 °F (which would exceed the hottest temperature ever recorded on Earth) accompanied by 75 mph, causing car radiators to boil over and the local crops to be destroyed, with people thinking that the world had come to its end.
