Ostensibly, if it obeyed the law, the federal government would pay for [[abortion]] only when necessary to save the life of the mother or in cases of rape or incest.  But on January 30, 2023, [[Democrat]] President [[Joe Biden]] falsely stated to reporters outside the [[White House]] that [[Pope Francis]] supported taxpayer-funded abortion.<ref>https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/biden-invokes-pope-francis-to-defend-taxpayer-funded-abortion/</ref>  Biden's statement was nowhere near true.
