:That's a very good review. if I may intrude for a moment to include one bit of information which may help illuminate things.
:In Orthodox Judaism, from the age of the Pharisees til today, there has been a debate whether or not there even is an afterlife beyond ''sheol'' or the grave. Denying the afterlife is not doctrinal, it's just a debate. In this passage Jesus makes clear which side of the debate he comes down on.
:Now the debate surrounds the promises made to Abraham, are they just for this life? Jesus says yes indeed there is an afterlife; on the other extreme you have the view of Hitler in ''Mein Kampf'' (he didn't invent it, there were many before him) that the Jews, with their fictitious Jehovah whom they invented, gave license to the Jewish people to economically exploit gentiles in this life without conscience, cause there is no final judgement and/or afterlife. That's the only flaw I see in the above essay, here: "find themselves '''on the same side as Abraham''' (whom they considered their "Father") '''in the age to come'''." Many did not then, nor today, believe there is "an age to come."
