The Judiciary Act of 1793 was the Act that created the federal court system, including the Circuit Courts, and the Federal District Courts.
The Act became a subject of controversy during the famous Supreme Court case Marbury v. Madison, which occurred as a result of President Adams' attempts to pack his successor's judiciary full of anti-Jefferson judges.
The Act was promulgated under the authority of the Constitution's Article III.
