Menendez was indited in September 2023, for a "corrupt relationship with three New Jersey associates and businessmen." According to the prosecution, Senator Menendez and his wife "agreed to and did accept hundreds of thousands of dollars of bribes" in return for Menendez's "power and influence as a senator to protect and enrich..."  They purport that his actions unlawfully benefited Wael Hana, Jose Uribe, and Fred Daibes, as well as acting "to benefit the Arab Republic of Egypt" as well as Qatar.<ref name="townhall Menendez">https://townhall.com/tipsheet/spencerbrown/2024/07/16/the-bob-menendez-verdict-is-in-n2642010</ref>

He faced over a dozen charges relating to alleged corruption between 2018 and 2022. He pleaded "not guilty" on all counts. After three days consisting of over twelve hours of deliberation, the jury found him guilty on all charges, on July 16, 2024. Taking into account the maximum sentences assigned to these charges, he could be facing a sentence of up to 200 years in prison.<ref name="townhall Menendez">https://townhall.com/tipsheet/spencerbrown/2024/07/16/the-bob-menendez-verdict-is-in-n2642010</ref><ref>https://www.foxnews.com/politics/sen-bob-menendezs-federal-corruption-trial-verdict</ref>
