In August 2025 the Ukrainian Border Guard proudly shared a [[video]] of catching 19 men trying to cross into [[Slovakia]].<ref>https://t.me/rwapodcast/2798</ref> Men aged 18-60 have been banned from leaving the country since 2022; dozens have been killed attempting it, many dying in the mountains or drowning in the Tisa river, some were shot. By April 2024, thirty men had died trying to leave Ukraine westward. That's more than 13 deaths per year. The death toll at the [[Berlin Wall]], with [[East German]] border guards having shoot-to-kill orders, was about 5 deaths per year.
