The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth or Republic of the Two Nations {''Rzeczpospolita'') as it was known stretched controlled around half of [[Estonia]] from 1561-1629, after which it was ceded to [[Sweden]]. It still stretched as far north as parts of [[Latvia]], which remained under its control till the Third Partition in 1795. What is presently the [[nation-state]] of Lithuania was also part of the Commonwealth.
