The '''Akkadian Empire''' 2360-2180 B.C. was situated in [[Sumeria]] in the [[fertile crescent]] in the lower [[Mesopotamia]] and north of the Sumer River. King [[Sargon the Great]] created the empire by overrunning the Kish.  An area that had few natural defenses, it lacked the long lasting nature of, say, the kingdom of Egypt during that same time period.
